P1/HAN Controller
Now it is tested and confirmed, it is possible to run a hybrid solar production plant without the separate, so called, "smartmeter". Our P1/HAN Controller has successfully used the data from the gridproviders main energymeter and fed it to the hybrid-inverter and the plant has been running without problems for months now.
The benefit with this solution would of cource be the easier installation when you do not have to open up the main circuit and install the second energy meter in series with the already existing main energy meter.
But, we see more potential use cases
- The obvious one is to provide measurements to EV charger for "green charging" ( charging only with the same power as the overproduction from solar) and loadbalansing ( automatically decreasing charge power when needed to avoid blowing main fuses )
- There are also a lot of especially non-hybrid microproduction plants that overproduce usually mid day when the energy price is close to zero. With this device just plugged in to the dataport on the main energymeter it could increase selfconsumption of overproduced solarenergy using EV charger ( green charging ) or loadadding with some typical home automation relays as IO devices.
- Since all our devices including this one also get the Nordpool energyprices from the cloud there are not much limits to what kind of energy optimization schemes that could be built. In one testsetup we also served the P1/HAN measurement data and Nordpool prices to a PLC device over ModbusTCP, this opens up the area of Industrial automation, HVAC and basically any other application with ModbusTCP client capability
The product is built on our TCC - Totech Cloud Connect platform. It has two serial ports, one is for the P1/HAN connection and the other one is a RS485 port that mimics the smartmeter and responds to the polls in such a way that the hybridinverter or EV charger believes it is connected to their own smartmeter. On WiFi or Ethernet it can serve a Local WebHMI, respond with JSON data and, as already mentioned, serve ModbusTCP.
We are looking forward to seeing this one in action soon. Do let us know if you have a suitable pilot project
